Target Packaging Audit

We needed to find some upscale packaging that looked minimal for the corporate business notebooks...so we headed to Target to see what some of our competitors were doing. After that we went to the Greene to check out gift & book. The full list of those pics can be found on the server under Trends > 2011 > Q2 > TGT and Bookstore Packaging.

3/18 audit

At last! The March 2011 products are set! Everything looked great. I think that the only disappointment was that the Mead P&O shelves weren't as angled as the buyer told us they'd be, making it impossible to see the top shelf if you're under 6 feet tall! But Marketing and Sales are on it and the correction request has been pushed out to the store managers.

With the ongoing task of trying to figure out how best to use dual-branding on packaging, we explored the food aisles where this is often done as well as clothing and gum.

(Mandie)
I went with the Marketers on an expedition to the Newport, KY Target store because it would be set earlier than the ones near us in Kettering. The store was only 2 weeks old and quite sparkly!

We turned into our DHO aisle to find a sea of blah. The backdrops where white, the signage was woodgrain, and the shelving put the product on a different (and higher!) angle than we expected.

2011 OrganizeHer line...not fully set. All the pink items are missing from the first shelf.

The 2011 Mead Planning & Organizing set...note the image in the merch sign. The planners you see right below it were shelved higher than eye level for me, and I am 5 foot 6. Hmmph.

The full set...

2011 Real Simple line - not fully stocked yet.

And 4 feet away from it on the same side of the aisle, Room Essentials. The products are eerily similar.

Noted from a trend perspective:
two great examples of endcaps that use various patterns but look cohesive.

BLUE looked really fresh.

Additional photos from Beavercreek Target...

Beavercreek

Welcome to our new Blog! Often we get photos of great findings at our beloved Target, only to never see them again because there's no "home" for them. Well, say no more! Now there is a place for us to post the pictures and any notes we may have taken. The entire TGT DHO1 Team has authoring privileges, so that this doesn't become a burden. Just start a new post, add pictures and comments if you'd like, and share! Enjoy!!

Much of the store was in disarray with the big March reset coming. Pretty much the entire handbag and wallet section was gutted, workers scurrying to empty boxes and fill the shelves with new products.

The shots above and below are actually the same jacket—the color just went funky.  =)
What a great example of the Classic Target look. Roughened, unfinished edges, chunky zippers, brushed hardware.
Chintz is alive and well.
Dark plumy purple, chartreuse and a dirty bluish lavendar were prominent throughout the store.

Our "inline" Planning set looks rather sad. It's pretty bare bones and set in a small 3 ft. section on the back wall. Likewise, the remnants of OrgHer, Russel + Hazel and some Blue Sky have been moved to an Endcap. As mentioned above, we believe it's in preparation of the big March revamp.
